2014 TRANSLATE COURSERA

A cloud-based solution for crowdsourced translation in online education. More than 3 million words are translated with the help of volunteers.

Coursera is a world-famous online educational project founded by Stanford professors Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller. The platform gives access to courses from the world’s leading educational institutions.

AWATERA designed a special technological platform that allows volunteers to simultaneously translate subtitles to their preferred courses online. The solution is based on the next generation cloud computer-assisted translation system called Smartcat. Since the platform knows how to handle terminology, the same terms and definitions are used across all the lectures.

During the course of this project, volunteers translated a total of 3,240,467 words and 47 courses.

The project was officially completed in 2017.
